The smallest chameleon in the world

Soooo cute... I want one of these to carry in your pocket. Looks like a toy art doll.

Discovered the smallest chameleon in the world

It was discovered in Madagascar which is believed to be the world's smallest chameleon.
The reptile, Brookesia micron with a maximum length of 2.9 cm, is one of four new species found by German scientists in the north of the island, off the coast of Africa, according to BBC.

A team of researchers led by Frank glaw of Zoologische Staatssammlung in Munich, carried out fieldwork during the night to discover that these animals easily go unnoticed.
"They usually live among the leaves on the ground during the day but at night they climb the trees and then we can see them," explained glaw.

Scientists seek with torches and lanterns likely places where these beings could live in, finding the smaller species on an islet of limestone and believe that this is an extreme case of dwarfism triggered by isolation on an island.

This phenomenon occurs when a species becomes increasingly small with the passage of time in order to adapt to a restricted habitat, such as an island.

"It is likely that the large island of Madagascar has produced the general group of chameleons, while the island has led to sensitive species," noted the researcher.
